A Big School with a Big Heart

Reading Zone

Research has shown that children who read regularly, and are frequently read to, will make significantly more progress than those who do not. We want all of our children to love reading and to read for pleasure. Reading with your child for as little as 10 minutes every day can make an enormous difference and, is there anything nicer than snuggling up with your child to enjoy a great story?

Throughout the year we will be planning a range of exciting activities to promote reading. We are also very pleased to announce that our link with the poet Paul Cookson will continue this year, and he will be making regular visits to school to act as our Reading Champion.

In these booklets you will find lots of information and tip tips to help you support your child with their reading. We have included some suggestions of our favourite books for each year group and there are some great stories on the list! Please read with your child as often as possible and discuss what is happening in every book (there are some ideas for questions to prompt this later in the following booklets).

Enjoy the information below and thank you for your continued support.

Happy reading
Mr Hall
Assistant Head/English Lead
